When you get to Edinburgh, you'll find that it's very easy to travel around. Human-power is a popular option: you'll find that most places are within easy walking distance of each other, and there are good cycle lanes and bike racks for cyclists. The University is based in the heart of the city, so once you arrive into the train or bus station, you are already just minutes away from the main student areas. The central area of the University is based around Chambers Street, Nicolson Street, and George Square.
A number of bus companies operate regular services to Edinburgh from major Scottish and other UK cities. Contact National Express or Citylink for more information.
Local buses
Lothian Buses offers a travel information line:
just tell them where you are and where you want to go, and
you'll be told all you need to know. Telephone: + 44 (0) 131 555 6363
Waverley Station
All trains arrive at Waverley Station in the centre of the
city, although some trains also stop at Haymarket, which is a smaller
station in the west end. Walking from Waverley to the central University
areas takes approximately 15 minutes. We recommend you to get off at
Waverley Station and take a local bus if you don ’t
wish to walk.
Visitors using the A1 can approach the University following the City Bypass (A720), turn off at the A701 junction until it becomes Mayfield Road (The Science and Engineering Faculty) and continue straight ahead until through Causewayside until you reach the central area.
